Abstract

Motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death for young people (ages 15 to 20) in the United States. In 2006 in Indiana, this age group represented 9 percent of the population, 7 percent of licensed drivers, and 18 percent of drivers involved in collisions. This fact sheet analyzes young driver involvement in collisions in Indiana from 2003 to 2006 including injury trends, driver contributing factors, restraint use, and alcohol involvement.
