Abstract

Understanding the spatial distribution of traffic collisions and injuries can assist officials in developing policies and targeting resources to address the many variables that may impact the geography of crashes.

A variety of factors may influence the number and nature of traffic collisions that occur in a given area, including the size and makeup of the population, the number of registered vehicles and licensed drivers, the number of vehicle miles traveled (VMT), and, perhaps most importantly, human behaviors and social norms that may contribute to the likelihood of particular types of crashes occurring in regions throughout the state.

This County Profile shows various collision and injury rates in Indiana counties in 2015. The economic costs associated with 2015 collisions are also reported for each county.
