Abstract: This paper presents the various methods of calculating high school graduation rates and the merits of each method. In addition to looking at the Midwest region, the paper explores how federal regulations affect these practices. It is essential that a uniform methodology for calculating graduation rates be utilized to ensure that state to state comparisons accurately reflect the realities of the state’s education system.
