Indianapolis Gardeners Benefit Society

The Indianapolis Gardeners Benefit Society is a mutual benefit society (in German, Unterstuetzungs Vereins) that pays sick and death benefits to its members. Established in 1867 as the Indianapolis Gaertner-Verein(Indianapolis Gardeners Society), the society changed its name to Deutschen Gaertner-Unterstuetzungs Vereins (German Gardeners Benefit Society) in 1886,and adopted its current name in 1934. The society restricted its membership to greenhouse and commercial gardners. The society is still active, and it is a member of the city's Federation of German Societies.
