The life science industry plays an important role in the economy of Central Indiana. Nationally, clusters in this industry occur in California, Massachusetts, and the Mid-Atlantic coastal region. Yet, because of the importance of social networks a few large firms have contributed to the success of Central Indiana's life science cluster. Start-ups, consisting of former employees of the local giants, have the potential to develop into innovative firms, enhancing the cluster. Understanding these networks as well as the other needs of firms is crucial to supporting and assisting the growth of the life science cluster.en
