The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA)is an independent and impartial forum for researchers in the field of voluntary action and citizen participation. Founded in 1971 as the Association of Voluntary Action Scholars (AVAS)by David Horton Smith, Burt Baldwin, and Richard Ready, today the organization is an interdisciplinary community of people dedicated to fostering research and education, the creation, application and dissemination of knowledge on nonprofit organizations, philanthropy, civil society and voluntary action.
