The Indiana University School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) program in Indianapolis has strengths in school, public, and academic librarianship, and the faculty bring expertise from research and practice into the classroom.

With the Bloomington program, SLIS is recognized as one of the best library and information science schools in the country.

In 2013 the school was merged with the IU School of Informatics. The new school was named the IU School of Informatics and Computing, and the library and information science program became a department within the new school.
